Legislative updates and supplementary information :

  • The statutory minimum wage came into effect on May 1, 2011. From May 1, 2023, the statutory minimum wage level will be raised to HK$40 per hour.

Violations and Penalties

  • If an employer intentionally and without reasonable excuse fails to pay wages to an employee on time, he or she may be prosecuted and, upon conviction, be liable to a maximum fine of $350,000 and imprisonment for three years.
